Britannica Encyclopedia School Edition was a really useful resource to help students research. Britannica School is a safe, up-to-date, and age-appropriate information resource for Elementary, Middle, and High School. With easy-to-read articles, reference and learning materials, Year 3 students utilize Britannica Online to help their findings about animals. They worked in pairs to find information about their chosen animal and by using their research skills, they tried to locate related information they needed to answer the given questions. Year 3 students really enjoy accessing information on Britannica Online because it has variety information they needed.

Year 1 students had a fun session in reading Growing Vegetable Soup Story written by Lois Ehlert. This is a beautiful book with wonderful and vibrant illustration about how to grow plants and cook it to a delicious soup. When reading the book, Year 1 students were very enthusiastic in sharing their knowledge about planting and growing vegetables. After reading the story, we had an activity about My Garden Journal. The best way to do this is to get involved with some fun activity that go along with the book. Students had an activity about the 3 stages in growing a plant. They tried to illustrate the stage when “I plant a seed”, “the it sprouts”, and “when it is a plant”. With Year 1 UOI Who We Are - we were talking about personal family and the powerful aspects of the family photographs to show kids understanding about their own family. First, we had a discussion about different types of family and students were very excited in sharing about their family. Afterwards we had a fun activity in making family portrait book. Every student independently worked in creating own book by folding and gluing 2 color papers. They also drew their family portrait on the front cover and shared about their understanding about family on their book, such as grandparents, siblings, pets, and friends.
Students presented their family book to their peers in classroom. Year 4 Unit of Inquiry is The design of structures is dependent upon environmental factors, human ingenuity and available resources. Get to know about other school library is another exciting research study for student. Students decided to share about their home country school library. They started to discuss about how would they find information. Firstly, they browse through the internet sites to see what school they would like to share. They decided to find a school that has library information so that they are able to present it to classmates. Students discussed with friends to create open-ended questions to get detailed information during their research study from the internet. They also investigated the answers about their home country library. Students scanned for home country library information then they skim the information using their own sentences and write the information onto the provided paper.
We talked about how can we recycled papers and save the trees. This brought us to a discussion about saving papers and not loosing so many trees. Students asked many questions about which parts of trees that can be used to make paper. At the end of the lesson, students work in pairs to recall their memory about the process of making papers. They make "The 6 Stages of Processing Paper" poster with their own illustrations. In the first of her many adventures, Madeline and her fellow orphans follow a strict daily routine (“In two straight lines/ they broke their bread/ and brushed their teeth/ and went to bed.”), Madeline has an emergency appendectomy, and everyone cries a lot. Year 1 Febriana really enjoys reading Madeline. We discussed about orphanages, orphans and their life without parents. Students showed their interests by asking questions and sharing their thoughts about orphans. At the end of the story, we decided to make a Madeline finger puppet. They explored their creativity by colouring it themselves and shared how they put same patterns and different colours on their Madeline finger puppet. YEAR 6 STUDENTS CONTINUED LEARNING TO USE ONLINE AND PRINTED ENCYLOPEDIA FOR RESEARCH STUDY8/9/2017 In the library, the lesson is integrated with classroom UOI “Where We Are in Place and Time” unit. We continue learning the scanning and skimming skills in finding information about the continents of the world (in order from the biggest to the smallest). We understood that encyclopaedias are arranged in volumes and single volume and each volume has guided words, and headings to find information on a topic.
We also searched for information about people famous places and its products that support the people in selling the products of the continent then paraphrased findings using our own sentences. Within this term we will learn to use Britannica online to get deeper understanding about the research study of our project. Year 1 students started the lesson by watching videos about how paper is made from wood and how to make liquid notebook cover. Students extracted information to answer specific questions and built an understanding of the materials in making books. In the process, they retrieved information from multiple sources, learnt the basic information about solid and liquid matters, and presented newly gained knowledge in oral form.
After that, we had an experiment in making liquid book cover. Students experienced the process in mixing water, baby oil, and some glitter in a plastic. We finished the lesson by looking closely at final product and they asked some questions and expressed their opinion about it. We had an activity about making mini books from solid matter—papers. Students created the front and back cover, and they had fun when decoration their book using their hand-drawing illustrations. Recognizing library signs and symbols: Year 3 students develop awareness about the library rules6/9/2017 During the integration UOI (How We Express Ourselves), year 3 students were emphasized to be aware of the signs and symbols found in the library.
The purpose of this lesson was to analyse different signs and symbols they seen in school library, as well as to gain an understanding of what it means. As we all know, signs and symbols are very common in real life, and it is important to understand the meaning behind them. Students started the lesson by exploring the library to locate signs and symbols, drawing what they look like and giving a description of what they mean. During class discussion, they asked and described the signs in full detail (what it looks like, the colours, and any words/pictures on it), and predict what it may mean and where it should be put in the library. At the end of the lesson, students tried to make a sign to be kept in the library. Then they presented it in front of class to express their understanding about their own-made sign.
